10 EVENTS IN RIGA IN AUGUST 2022. A useful shortlist!
The summer is
at its zenith, the temperature is constantly warm (same as the water
around Riga) and the evenings are long and heady. There is a reason why
august is one of the most popular months in the capital among visitors, and here are 10 very different events to prove Riga has many things to offer for many kinds of people. Meanwhile, we chose another important part of Riga to be showcased on this month's title picture - markets! While waiting for events to begin, we very much suggest visiting multiple food markets across the centre of Riga and trying out some freshly grown fruits and veges!
RĪGA'S SUMMER OF COURAGE AND JOY

How much: free admittanceWhat used to be the usual Riga city festival, has been turned into a whole Summer Culture Programe this year, and it will certainly be something that awakens courage, while also serving as a two-month source of joy! "For the first time, the Riga cultural program will be actively held in
the city's neighborhoods - Āgenskalns, Imanta, Bolderāja, Purvciems un
Pļavnieki, Maskavas Forštate and Vecmīlgrāvis. Everyone is invited to
joyfully celebrate, rejoice and enjoy the long summer days by visiting
one of these new and yet unexperienced neighborhoods. All throughout the summer, discussions, concerts, workshops and other
events will also take place in four Riga parks - Nordeķu Park, Vērmanes
Garden, Viesturdārzs Gārden and Mazjumprava Manor Garden, which will
encourage people to make courage and joy a part of their everyday lives.
On August 20, one of the most important events of this summer's
celebration will take place in the heart of Riga - the Courage and Joy
Exercise. All together in an exciting and joyful manner, alongside old
friends and new ones made in the summer, through various games, theater
and music performances and other activities, we will awaken courage and
promote joy in each of us and in the whole city. "

contemporary art. Every year during the festival, audiences have the chance
to discover the technical and artistic diversity of the global and local moving image.

internationally renowned works of art, continuing to promote the
ubiquitous nature of the video medium and to observe its trends in the
context of contemporary art."

Due to mental and financial damage of the last two years, we won't be able to host our usual international lineup. Still, we consider there are enough talented local musicians to have a unique music experience on 13th of August at “Totaldobže”. RERĪGA!
Contemporary circus & street art festival

For the 10th year, RERĪGA! will gather "participants from Baltics and
other places of the world to show performances indoors and outdoors,
for free and for fee, shows which are possible to watch sitting,
standing, lying and even walking.
RE RIGA! 2022 will be the first of a festival trilogy which will
symbolize creation of new relationships between audience and artists.
The main theme of 2022 festival is “Unexpected Encounters/Follow Me". This years festival will also showcase site-specific shows
and will invite audience to unexpectedly meet circus in the city.
Finally, after two years of covid restrictions, RE RIGA! is organizing internationally known Belgian artists “Be Flat” whose
specific work with acrobatics and parkour in the show “Follow Me” has
surprised audiences all across the world. Artists, who jump around
fences, roofs and balconies will be followed by the audience. Every show
is unique, so be ready!"

KEDR LIVANSKIY (postponed until 10 September 2022)
"Kedr Livanskiy is the stage name of Yana Kedrina, a young girl from Moscow who creates melodic electronic music that is filled with her dreamy soft voice. Over the past few years, Yana has gained huge popularity and recognition in the underground music scene around the world. Kedr Livanskiy's debut album “Ariadna” was released in September 2017 on American label 2MR and received many positive reviews, after which Yana became a frequent guest at festivals in Europe and the USA. Her records have received praise from such publications as Pitchfork and The Guardian, and in her tour schedule spans across USA, Canada, and Europe and coexist with big name festivals such as Primavera, FLOW, Roskilde and many others."
