Apart from the interesting permanent exhibition, the Medicine History Museum in Riga also hosts a wonderful, witty and important show, focusing on dementia and the experience of people with dementia and their relatives. Local artist Anna Priedola introduces and depicts the daily life and perceptual processes, socio-political realities, and human relations of seniors with dementia in audio format through data visualizations and experiences of dementia. The artist uses milk and its products as the principal means of expression.
The exhibition is complemented by items in the museum's collection. Anatomical preparations, black-and-white photographs, historical data visualizations, and everyday objects introduce the visitor to the exhibition and draw attention to the presence and appearance of aging in everyday life.

MACHINE DE CIRQUE
Ghost Light
"The teeterboard takes the centre of the stage. The fact that it rotates, makes it a major acrobatic challenge. The acrobats are unrelenting in their efforts to push back the boundaries of the teeterboard. The artists are aware that these moments are fleeting, a sense of urgency pushes them to continue working and enjoying this process till the very end. On the stage, under the ghost light’s rays, their story unfolds."

"With three solo albums, worldwide tours and some billion streams under his belt, the famous singer-songwriter José González has definitely made a name for himself with his signature style. His warm, intimate voice and tender harmonies, underlined by a dexterously plucked Spanish guitar and muted percussion, deliver profoundly thoughtful lyrics largely revolving around ideas of civilization, humanism, and solidarity. A sincere, artful performer whose singular approach to songwriting and sonics sets him worlds apart, José González is in a class by himself."

Probably know for their signature Tiktok "hit" Sudno, "Molchat Doma (translated as “Houses Are Silent”), was founded in 2017 in Minsk, Belarus, and stands at the intersection of post-punk, new-wave and synth-pop. Dark yet danceable, and with a heavy dose of goth ethos, their music is reminiscent of the masters that predate them, but make no mistake: Molchat Doma creates a sound and meaning that is immediately recognizable as all their own. Their second LP, Этажи (pronounced Etazhi, meaning “Floors”) was released in 2018. It has sold out more than 10000 copies and is currently on repressing due to outstanding demand. Despite playing to packed clubs no matter whether it's in London, Warsaw, Helsinki, Belgrad, or Berlin, they are still flying under the radar in their native Belarus."
MIDSUMMER'S NIGHT
Where: everywhere
How much: free
If there is an event as great as a nation in Latvia, it, for sure, is
the Midsummer's night, or the Summer solstice, or Līgo or Jāņi. Once celebrated exclusively on 21 June long time ago (following the
astronomical calendar), the event has evolved into a mass happening
enjoyed nationally mostly during 23 - 24 June. Literally half the country is
gone to forests, countryside, by lakes, the sea, among friends or
family (or people we soon make friends or family). Midsummer in Latvia is mass events, small events, strong repetitive
traditions, but, most of all, the night is never slept and the god of bonfire and nature is always celebrated. NB! The best way to celebrate this is to "hire a Latvian" - when possible, try to catch up with someone really local; then you will be much closer to understand what this means to us.
Iesaku pasekot arī Gruss pasākumiem ;)
